<p>En los hombres con cáncer de próstata, mantener un peso adecuado y alimentarse sanamente no solo brinda muchos beneficios para la salud general, sino que aumenta la expectativa de vida al disminuir la probabilidad de progresión y recurrencia del cáncer.<sup>1-10.</sup></p>

<p>Así mismo, dicho riesgo está elevado en los hombres cuya alimentación no es saludable porque incluye grandes cantidades de carnes rojas, azúcar y ciertas grasas (principalmente grasas saturadas), así como una poca cantidad de frutas, verduras y granos.<sup>1,3,6,8,10-12.</sup></p>

<p>Por otra parte, tanto el cáncer de próstata como algunos de los tratamientos para este (debido a sus efectos no deseados, entre ellos: disminución del apetito, náusea, vómito, diarrea) pueden ocasionar problemas nutricionales.<sup>2,4,9,10.</sup></p>

<p>Sobre todo, teniendo en cuenta que una alimentación saludable, es decir, suficiente y balanceada, contribuye (junto con la actividad física) a mantener un peso adecuado, a la vez que facilita la recuperación después de los tratamientos, incrementa los niveles de energía y también evita y mejora los problemas nutricionales<sup>1,2,4,7-10.</sup></p>
